ABOUT MARIA

Maria received her law degree in May of 1998 from Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis, working full time and attending classes in the evenings.  Prior to law school, she worked as a civilian contracting officer for the US Navy for 12 years and the US Army for 2 years.  In the latter part of her work with the Navy, she bought sonobuoys, the surveillance devices made famous in Tom Clancy’s “Hunt for Red October”.  She received her undergraduate degree in Agricultural Communications from Purdue University in 1983, which, as she tells it, means she can talk to pigs.

Her office is on the eastside of Indianapolis.  As a general practice attorney she does a large amount of family law, including prenuptial agreements, annulments, divorces, custody and child support cases, adoptions, adult or minor guardianships, and paternity cases, as well as estate planning, probate, contracts, contract disputes, general litigation and small business advice.

She is a member of Footlite Musicals and Player’s Club.  Maria served on the board of the Irvington Community Council from 1983 until 1994, and again from 1998 to 2003, twice as its president, and currently serves as its general counsel.  She has been a volunteer Guardian Ad Litum with Kids Voice since October of 2006.  She served two terms as president of the Hancock County Bar Association.  She is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and is on the IndianaDocs, Solo and Small Firm Conference and Publications committees.  She and her husband of 33 years live on a five acre farm, in a 100 year old farm house.  The current farm menagerie consists of 4 dogs, 2 cats (give or take), and four horses.
